NJ High School Pitch Count Rules

The NJSIAA baseball pitch count rule in plain words, with a rest calculator. Based on the NJSIAA Baseball Pitch Count Rule, revised December 5, 2025.

The rules

  • Maximum 110 pitches per game.
  • Rest depends on the count: 91-110 pitches, 4 calendar days. 71-90, 3 days. 51-70, 2 days. 31-50, 1 day. 1-30, no rest day.
  • No pitching on three consecutive calendar days.
  • No more than 150 pitches in any five-calendar-day period.
  • A pitcher who reaches 110 during a batter may finish that batter. That exception does not apply to the 150-pitch limit.
  • Pitches across games in one day count together. A doubleheader is one day's count.

NJSIAA rest calculator

Add up every game the pitcher threw in today. Then check the other two limits yourself: no pitching three calendar days in a row, and no more than 150 pitches in any five calendar days.

Rest table

Pitches in a dayCalendar days of rest
1-300 days
31-501 day
51-702 days
71-903 days
91-1104 days

Rest days are full calendar days after the day the pitcher threw. Thrown Monday with 2 days of rest: pitches again Thursday.

Setting it up in PitchWise

PitchWise's team pitch limit can be set to 110 for NJ varsity. The app counts every pitch you chart, in games and bullpens, and tells you who's ready each morning, so you are not adding up a scorebook at 10 p.m. before a doubleheader.

Common questions

What is the NJSIAA pitch count limit?

110 pitches per game. A pitcher who reaches 110 during an at-bat may finish that batter.

How many days of rest after 75 pitches in New Jersey?

Three calendar days. The NJSIAA table is 1-30 pitches: none, 31-50: 1 day, 51-70: 2 days, 71-90: 3 days, 91-110: 4 days.

Can a high school pitcher in New Jersey pitch three days in a row?

No. The rule does not allow pitching on three consecutive calendar days, even if each outing is short.

Do pitches from a doubleheader count together?

Yes. Pitches thrown in more than one game on the same day count together for the limit and for rest.

Does the finish-the-batter exception apply to the 150-pitch limit?

No. A pitcher may finish the batter at 110 pitches in a game, but no more than 150 pitches are allowed in any five-calendar-day period, with no exception.
